Great first bed Sep 14, 2007
By Angela Szalkowski We purchased this bed for our daughter because we had to return a borrowed crib. We started her in the bed when she was 15 months old for nap time. Using all the rails and turning the bed around prevented her from getting out. Once she was used to the bed we removed one of the rails so she could get in and out on her own. She has been in it ever since. It was a 2 person project to put together, but nothing that 2 non-handy people couldn't handle. She is now 27 months and still loves her bed. It is low enough that even if they do get out at night, there is little chance that they will hurt themselves. We are getting ready to convert it to a bed since our daughter is tall and nearly reaches end to end when she stretches out!
I would recommend this bed for a first bed. Look around though, there is one site (Kelley Furniture) that offers free shipping!!!!

Pretty, but soft wood. Feb 21, 2007
By Nancy Hofmann This bed is nice looking and works ok (I've had to retighten all the screws after some use), but the wood is so soft that ANY banging on it leaves a mark. You have to be very careful during assembly not to scratch and dent it. And, my toddler (who isn't too wild) has left lots of marks all over it.
It is not worth paying a premium for the fact that it is convertible to a full sized bed since it will be pretty beat up by the time it gets to that point. I wish we had spent half as much on a toddler bed and then just gotten a bigger bed when we needed it.

Gone thru 2 kids... May 26, 2009
By Suzmquz We 1st purchased this bed nearly 4 yrs ago. Loved it then, still love it now. Our 2nd child has just about outgrown this great toddler bed and we're getting ready to to sell it. It has certainly taken some abuse. Toys have been banged and thrown at it & it does have some dents/small gouges on it, but I think any kind of wood furniture would have that b/c lets face it, kids are not gentle with toys. Both kids jumped on it(together) and it's still holding up well.
I also loved how I could remove one of the side rails when they were ready to be a little more independent. A great bed.

Great Bed!! Feb 27, 2009
By Roche This is my first time actually writing a review but I know how it feels being a worrisome parent trying to research every aspect of a product before purchasing! Anyway here goes...My son is only 14 months and i purchased this bed as a spare for the basement, though he is only 14 mths he is a big boy and taking naps in his pack and play was no longer an option as the mattress sagged. You do need some help with assembly but hey if I assembled it with another very "non-handy" helper i guess its not so bad. I feel the bed is well made and worth the price..i ordered the cherry finish and its nicer than the pictures. Its low to the floor, my only issue to date is that i had to re-tighten 2 screws(not a big deal!)But what might really help you make a decision especially with a younger child is that the bed comes with 2 side railings...i was extremely happy when i saw this, this is my first toddler bed purchase so i dont know if thats true of all the toddler beds. Anyway my fear of getting this too early for my 14 mth old subsided because i used both railings so he is completely barred off. I must say the railings are very secure He is 16 months now and he loves this bed more than his crib,im actually contemplating removing a railing so he can climb into bed himself.

Baby loves his new bed Feb 27, 2010
By A. Schafer We had such a hard time deciding which type of bed to get our baby after he learned how to climb out of his crib. He's almost 2. Our friends who have children advised us to purchase a twin bed, pointed out how quickly toddlers outgrown toddler beds. We went bed shopping and the twin size beds were just tooooo big! We didn't like how high up the twin beds were-too far away from the floor. Twin bed seemed to be too big of a step after going from a crib. Plus it would have meant having to invest in guard rails. So after researching, we decided on DaVinci's Toddler bed. We made a good choice! It's basically like he's still in his crib-the bed is basically enclosed, except of course for the opening so that he can climb in and out of it. We liked how we can still use his crib bumpers and mattress, and we were able to stick with his bedroom theme in being able to continue to use his crib bedding. Very easy to assemble. Our only complaint is that the bed only holds a certain amount of weight, so we can't lay in the bed with our baby to read him stories, or just lay with him if he's having trouble dozing off. We have to sit on the floor or get a chair. He loves the bed, makes him feel really special. It's just his size without being overwhelming like a twin bed would be at this point. Would recommend.
