Headboard and Footboard are made of Pressed Wood! Aug 19, 2011
By Julane
"Julane"
I was very excited to get this cradle in the mail after I ordered it. Most of the reviews that I read about this product were very positive. Usually good reviews point to a good product. Unfortunately, this is not the case this time for me. Apparently the other people who reviewed this cradle do not know that good quality furniture is made from solid wood and not pressed board. Or, perhaps they can't recognize pressed wood because there is so much cheap furniture that Americans buy these days at places like Walmart. I am very surprised and dismayed that so many people reviewed this cradle positively when it is clearly a cheap item.
Also, I am very disappointed with the description of the product by the manufacturer. It is very misleading. They claim online that it is "Made of Pine" and that it is "Formaldehyde-free" and "Made with wood from sustainable forests." There is no mention of pressed wood. I did read in one of the reviews that the piece of wood that goes under the mattress was made of pressed wood. However, that is easily replaceable, along with the cheap mattress. I bought the cradle thinking that I would need to replace those two things, but I didn't worry about the rest of the cradle because it was supposed to be made of pine according to the manufacturer's description. However, it is not solid pine! The headboard and the footboard are made of pressed wood, and they cannot be easily replaced! The rocker portion, the crib slats, and the overall frame appear to be made of solid wood, but there is enough pressed wood in this cradle to make it smell strongly of chemicals, and it looks cheap. I could tell right away when looking at the headboard and the footboard that it was not real, solid wood based on the slight variation in color and the fake grain pattern.
As a new mother I am very concerned about purchasing items that are made from pressed wood because they contain a number of components that are very harmful to babies and small children - not to mention the adults who share the room with the furniture. Is it so difficult to make a little cradle out of solid pine? I am angry that this was advertised without disclosing the entire truth about the product. If you care about whether or not you are subjecting your child to harmful toxins/vapors coming from products that contain pressed wood, then you should definitely pass up this item and pay more money to get a quality, solid wood item from another manufacturer.
It is not stated online where this cradle is made. Can you guess where? China. You don't find that out until you see it stamped on the box. I'd like to suggest to Da Vinci that they start making their cradles of solid wood by people who will make a quality product - namely by craftsmen in the U.S.A.! As for me, I'm sending this piece of junk back and I'm going to purchase a solid wood cradle from another company. I will make sure that my new cradle is pressed board free (and therefore toxin free) for my child to sleep in.

Rock the cradle to sleep. Sep 06, 2010
By Lila Howle This cradle is beautiful and practical. My preemie needed a cradle that is small enough to cradle him and large enough to give him room to grow.It has a lot of style and looks great in our bedroom. He likes the rocking moton which usually puts him to sleep. It was very easy to put it together and had all of the pieces included. I purchased this item thru Amazon.com and was pleased with packaging and shipping. This cradle will make a nice family piece.

Large and Sturdy Jan 05, 2012
By Scott It's a great looking cradle. However, it doesn't sit quite level even with the two rocking stops turned to the floor. And of course we didn't use the rocking stops because we thought we'd be rocking the baby at 2am and not want to reach to the floor at each end of the cradle in the dark every time the baby cried. So the baby ends up stuck to one side of the cradle all night. But I imagine this review would apply to all cradles that rock from the feet. We quit using it and will get a swing-style cradle next time. As for this particular model, it's large and sturdy.
Love this! Mar 02, 2012
By B. Sanchez I didn't want anything with soft edges and stuff so I got this and I LOVE it..
It sits right next to my bed and I can reach her easily. It even breaks down fairly easily to take on road trips. We took it with us to Houston and when we stopped along the way my husband would take it into the hotel room and put it back together - it takes about 5 minutes but for us it was the only option. We use a special organic mattress with it and I am paranoid about SIDS.
My boss had one of those bassinet things they sell at Babies R Us and said her son outgrew it already at like 2 months old. My DD is about 14lbs and 4 months old and still fits just fine in ours. I think it will last a few more months at least.
It's gorgeous and sturdy and will last us for our other children as well. My mother-in-law saw it and wanted one so now she has one at her house (she watches my daughter 2x a week)
So cute and sturdy! Sep 24, 2011
By Stephanie Mejia My mother purchased this crib for my baby shower. It took my husband about 30 minutes to assemble. I was pleasantly surprised to find the wood very sturdy. The crib looks fragile from the picture but the wood is just as thick as the high end cradles from green frog art, but at least 3x less cost. It looks perfect with the rest our bedroom set which is also dark cherry. The mattress is thin, however 2inches is actually the normal size for a crib mattress. I bought another mattress to place on top for my own piece of mind. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the flush bronze screws can be seen from the headboard and foot board. 4 wooden caps could have solved this problem. Otherwise gorgeous cradle I am sure my little girl will love it, I do.
